About Psychology Basics
In the early 90's I started my own journey of recovery of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. As many others, I am myself an adult survivor.. Over the past 10 years I have become an counsellor, educator and consultant working with many survivors of violence due to past childhood abuses, spousal abuse, institutionalized abuse, residencial schools. I have been on both sides which has gifted me with a unique compassion for people currently dealing with the symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress. At times I still deal with symptoms but through learning new skills symptoms can be managed and dealt with in very healthy ways.
Pychology Basics Forums was born out a vision to bring together survivors, educators and professional in the field not only to share knowledge and support but also to provide information specifically about PTSD and Chronic PTSD. Addressing the needs of survivors of natural disasters, trauma survivors, Vets, concentration camp survivors, individuals that have come through the residential school system and persons with disabilities that have come through institutional systems. I have found that these share communities share common threads when it comes to dealing with histories and symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Psychology Basics Forums includes forums specifically on research, scientific studies and more along those lines specifically for professionals and other interested parties. I have also included a section on medications such as antidepressents - this forum is not anti-medication as it may be a valuable part of treatment for PTSD.
